July & August 2008
Commander's Corner
A new year at Post 99 begins, and I wish to thank all of you who attended the May membership meeting to vote for your Post’s new leadership. I believe you choose wisely. They are enthusiastic and excited to see our Post move forward. Congratulations to the newly elected.
Now the work to organize, plan and implement will begin. I have already had a meeting with our newly elected Auxiliary President and some of her staff – laying out some objectives for our joint successes. (And will be meeting with the SAL leadership as well.)
Our mutual goals are very simple: (1) provide an inviting home for our member veterans and support and encourage (through a variety of functions) our young veterans and their families (from current conflicts) and join us at social and patriotic functions. (2) Involve our members in the many programs which the Legion, Auxiliary, and SAL sponsor. (Especially our youth programs.) (3) Be actively involved in the West Valley community (the community we serve and mutually support). (Chamber of Commerce; Campbell Veterans Memorial; Memorial and Veterans Day events; Cancer Society, etc.) This will publicize what the Legion does and encourage recruitment. (4) Develop and implement a balanced budget, to include a strong program for healthy income and controlled costs. (5) Expand our ability to communicate with our members and the community as to our goals and activities. (6) Work with the Building Corporation to finalize and implement the agreements between the Post and the Alano Club. And establish a strong working relationship with their staff to implement joint activities and programs.
And all of this to achieve our “ultimate goal”, to HAVE FUN !!!
Please join us at the JULY membership meeting with a “‘New Year’ Kickoff Celebration.”And don’t forget our Fourth of July BBQ!

Unfortunately Mr Honey had a prior commitment and wasn’t able to be at the May meeting, as required by the Post 99 By-Laws, to be elected. Only two of the officer positions were contested, the Commander and the Executive board, all other positions were filled by a white ballot.
