May/June 2008
Commander's Corner
I encourage all of you to be present at
the next Post membership meeting on May 8 when you will elect your officers for the next fiscal year.
I have
been in the American Legion for 37 years, and Commander “six” times and proud of it. I find it hard to accept
the way members don’t care about the way it should be run, using the rules when it fits their needs & the
hell with the rules when it doesn't.
I know I will no doubt loose this election because of this article.
But I would sooner go down in defeat for what is right than win by not doing what is right. It is up to
you as Real Legionnaires, as a voting members or as a member running for office to vote for what the
Legion is supposed to be, not what it is turned into. God love and be with you.
AUXILIARY - - Diana Lane
SAL - - Gary Tremaine
All SAL members who have not paid their 2008
dues are past due. Please pay soon if you want to remain a Squadron member.
Paid membership: Post; 587,
Auxiliary; 68, SAL; 21 Only seven Post 99 members signed in at the last meeting, plus the officers.
Four district officers were present.
Ernest A. Glave
ADJUTANT
The membership meeting on May 8 will be the last
opportunity for members to nominate for the elections to be held at the membership meeting on May 8. All
members are encouraged to attend this meeting to express their preferences. As of April the meeting
nominations are as follows:
Commander: Tony Benanti & Ernie Glave
1st Vice Cmdr: OPEN
2nd Vice Cmdr: Stu Lavatai
3rd Vice Cmdr: Ron Hruby
Sgt-at-Arms: Randy Klingborg
Service Officer: Chuck Berls & Ralph Borrego
Judge Advocate: Earl Honey
Executive Board (3): Jim Garcia, Earle Wigham & Ray White
Building Board (9): Jerry LaLonde, Dave StPierre, Bob Bourbon, Ken Blair, Dennis Nunez, Dave Garley
As you can see there are no nominees for the 1st Vice and for three members of the Building Board. Although it is possible to operate without these offices being filled, one would think that out of the 587 paid members there would be someone willing to fill these vacancies.
